In Uganda, environmental pollution and unequal access to natural resources are major problems that affect the youth. Voice of Mitooama, a youth led media Association is implementing a project that will support and empower youth to raise awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way. Youth are being supported to implement awareness raising and projects around a human and environmentally friendly way of producing.

Programme Objectives
1) To provide communications support to young journalists to carefully write and tell various stories designed to raise awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way.
2) To support youth to implement environment and sustainability actions with a major objective of increasing awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way.
3) To encourage and support communities to implement community actions around human and environmentally friendly way of producing.
4) To create a team of environmentally focused and sustainability youth storytellers who will write on climate change in Uganda, environmental pollution, unequal access to natural resources, Greenhouse gas emissions and other relevant topics on Environment and Sustainability and influence leaders and producers to take action on managing the word in a sustainable way.
The target group of the Programme
The target group for this programme are youth journalists aged between 22-28. These are being empowered and supported to carefully write and tell various stories designed to raise awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way.
Programme Activities
1) Providing communications support to a pool of talented young journalists to carefully write and tell various stories designed to raise awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way. This will be done by implementing a training programme that will produce a new team of environmentally focused and sustainability relevant youth storytellers. Voice of Mitooma will organize two-week training workshops as a capacity-building initiative for developing environmentally focused and sustainability relevant youth storytellers. The aim of the training will be to enhance youth journalists’ environmental and sustainability reporting skills. Each training is usually for 20 youth journalists.
2) Following the training, participants are supported to implement an environment and sustainability programme with a major objective of increasing awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way. Environment and sustainability programme will include production of a quarterly newsletter and a brochure on managing the word in a sustainable way. The programme will involve deployment of various communication tools in order to communicate to the widest number of people in ways that really make a difference including New Media with a combination of internet and the interplay between technology, images and sound. We shall combine traditional media with new media by producing a brochure and a news letter both off and online to raise awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way. The Production of a newsletter and brochure will be followed by information Campaign with online, on air and field Communication activities to reach out to many people and leaders of all categories in order to influence their opinion and change their attitudes towards a human and environmentally friendly way of producing. Information campaign will raise awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way.
3) We shall create an online platform where the team of environmentally focused and sustainability youth storytellers publish their stories. The team of environmentally focused and sustainability youth storytellers will write on climate change in Uganda, environmental pollution, unequal access to natural resources, Greenhouse gas emissions and other relevant topics on Environment and Sustainability and influence leaders and producers to take action on managing the word in a sustainable way.
4) The team of environmentally focused and sustainability youth storytellers will be supported to implement actions on awareness raising and human and environmentally friendly way of producing. Such actions could focus on climate change in Uganda, environmental pollution, unequal access to natural resources, Greenhouse gas emissions and other relevant topics on Environment and Sustainability and influence leaders and producers to take action on managing the word in a sustainable way.
