Gender & Media

Achieving more balanced and informative coverage of women and of gender equality issues should not be the province of women only, but it should be understood as a professional responsibility of all journalists, both men and women. The programme aims at increasing the number of Journalists reporting on environmental and climate change from the perspective of Gender. With this programme, Voice of Mitooma aims at fostering Gender sensitive Reporting while covering environmental and climate change related news in Uganda

This programme aims to increase the number of female journalists dedicated to more and better coverage of environment-related issues. Through this programme, Voice Mitooma seeks to support and empower female Journalists to protect freedom of information on environment and climate change-related issues in Uganda and beyond. Voice of Mitooma will increase the numbers of women journalists working to contribute to better coverage of women, more attention to women’s views and more visibility to gender equality issues

Institutional Strengthening

Voice of Mitooma will work to strengthen it's Capacity to effectively implement its mandate. The following are the activities that Voice of Mitooma will implement; 1) Developing a Resource Mobilization Strategy; 2) Support for the implementation of its Core programmes; 3) Increasing Publicity and Communication; 4) Purchase of Equipment to support programme implementation; 5) Support Salaries of the team implementing the programmes; 6) Supporting other institutional needs like trainings for Board Members and staff.

Environment & Sustainability

This programme aims at empowering youth to raise awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way. In Uganda, environmental pollution and unequal access to natural resources are major problems that affect the youth. Voice of Mitooama, a youth led media Association is implementing a project that will support and empower youth to raise awareness on the need to manage the word in a sustainable way. Youth are being supported to implement awareness raising and projects around a human and environmentally friendly way of producing.

This programme seeks to support journalists and independent Media Houses who take greater risk to investigate sensitive and report on, environment-related subjects in Uganda. The programme will also support efforts of Journalists and independent media houses to produce and disseminate Environmental related news. In this way, Independent Media in Uganda will play a key role in shaping the information that opinion leaders and the public will use to judge the urgency of climate change, what needs to be done about it, when and at what costs.

REAFA

In 2020, Voice of Mitooma launched its agency-Renewable Energy for Agri-Food Systems Agency (REAFA) with the overall aim of transforming energy and food systems in Uganda to cope with growing demand; to become more inclusive, secure, and sustainable; and to come into alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. REAFA is working to ensure that actors in food chain (farmers, processors, retailers, distributers and consumers have access to renewable energy by facilitating mechanisms for access and generation.
